Overview of the Dutch Paper & graphic industry
The Dutch Paper and Board Industry aims to be a highly innovative,
environmentally-sound and attractive business sector. One which is
attractive to all stakeholders: shareholders, public authorities,
personnel, buyers, and suppliers.
During the past years the Dutch paper and board industry focused on
internationalization and its paper market has also evolved into a more
international market. Today approximately 70% of the paper produced
in the Netherlands is destined for export and approximately 75% of the
paper for domestic consumption is imported from abroad. Moreover
Dutch recycled paper is now distributed all over the world. The
Netherlands has been one of the world's top-five competitive countries
for at least five years. One of the country's strengths is its extremely
high percentage of recycled paper and board
Consequently the sector has acquired a pronounced international
orientation.

Potential areas of Trade & Investment |
- 75% of the paper and board used by the Dutch is manufactured
abroad. Both the pulp and recycled paper required by the industry are
imported from varied suppliers.
- Expertise in recycled paper and board. Sri Lanka's newspaper
industry is growing at lightening speed. Relative to the limited
penetration in the IT information highway and internet access , there is
an increase in the numbers of news hungry public, which has resulted
in the launch of over ten new newspapers, last year alone. Furthermore,
the rate of circulation of all newspapers is steadily growing. This not
only means a guaranteed market for any Dutch-Sri Lankan joint
venture but it also means access to a continuous supply of raw material
for recycled paper.
