Incentives promoting Economic cooperation
A firm believer in its credo “trade not aid” Netherlands development cooperation policy primarily focuses on the development of the private sector in developing countries. It has several incentive programmes.


CBI
Center for the promotion of imports from developing countries. A programme committed to strengthen the competitiveness of companies of developing countries in the EU market by preparing them to meet the social values and relevant environmental requirements in practise therein. Focusing its activities such as management marketing, products, technology and production processes CBI stimulates economic practices that are sustainable, socially responsible and that comply with international environmental market requirements. CBI key tools are market Information, company matching, export development programmes, training programmes, BSO development programme.


PESP
Programme for Economic Cooperation Projects The objective of PESP is to enhance the chances of the Netherlands firms to secure export orders and to promote international cooperation. Proposals are encouraged for projects envisaged to lead to a broad based export capital goods and services from the Netherlands. PESP will make provision of financial support primarily for feasibility and investment studies. It also facilitates reimbursement of expenses for project identification and foreign expert assessment studies, providing this is at the preliminary stage of export.


PSOM
Programme for Cooperation with Emerging Markets PSOM is an initiative of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the intent to share some of the initial financial risks that companies face when investing in new products and/or technologies in emerging markets in developing countries. The PSOM-programme will pay 50% of the costs of the projects, which most likely lead to long term investments and lasting trade relations in the selected countries and have the largest impact on poverty alleviation.


ORET
Development related Export Transactions programme The ORET programme is designed to help generate employment, boost trade and industry in developing countries and improve environmental quality. The ORET is a grant programme within the Directorate General for International corporation. An ORET grant must be applied for by the Netherlands company that wishes to implement the project. The grant is awarded to the developing country but is in fact used for these direct payments to the supplier.


NMCP
The Netherlands Management Cooperation programme The NMCP is an independent organization that assigns senior advisors, many of whom are retired or have taken early retirement to companies and organizations in developing countries. In selecting countries to which it assigns experts NMCP adheres to the policy of the Netherlands government and the EU, the main funders of this programme by way of annual grants.
